However, you both make excellent points. I translate Genesis 1:1 differently. G-d created space (heaven) and time (earth). That fits in much better with my understanding of reality.

Comment on Speak To You Tomorrow, Mr. President

That question separates the "chaff from the wheat." Its a red line in and of itself for this administration and its policy towards Israel. The questions begs ( or should I say demands) to be answered.

Comment on Speak To You Tomorrow, Mr. President

Of course! It is my question for whomever occupies the Oval Office, without regard to party affiliation. It is an honest question, not an attempt to trap the President.

On or about November 6, we will know if Gov. Romney's answer will be insignificant, or of the utmost importance come January.

Comment on Speak To You Tomorrow, Mr. President

Superb question.
A step further: may one fantasize on what Mitt's response would be?

Comment on Dear Linda Hirshman: Shut Up!

Agreed. Seems "we" over share as a country. Privacy is really ok. The fact that the general public found out about Ms. Ride's personal life after her death is just fine. As I used to say as a kid, "it's none of your beeswax!" There is a book by Manis Friedman "Doesn't Anyone Blush Anymore?" Seems in the spirit of modesty. Ms. Ride just didn't want to bring attention to herself. I understand Neil Armstrong was similar. It makes sense that astronauts need to be of solid character/modest to do what they do and remain focused. Thanks, Rabbi Ben!

Comment on Dear Linda Hirshman: Shut Up!

I used to read Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report. It is a form of a ‘thou shalt’ commandment.
The other two are chiefly theological confirmatives.
Ones who believe in the existence of G-d need not be told that he created the heavens and the earth.
Who else?
How else?
Although the second verse cited contains an implied exhortation to ‘behave yourselves’ for you are “holy ones“, it ends with the affirmation of the existence of G-d. Is this not a given?
Yes, all biblical verses have importance. But it is the Hillel advice that gives guidance to a religiously fulfilled life.
Jack Kamen

Comment on The Most Important Verse in the Bible

Ben: Dennis Prager does make a good point and I do have to agree with him. I certainly would have answered the question differently but upon reflection I certainly cannot disagree wtth Mr. Prager. Without G-d involvement, the Bible would not exist. It is because of G-d's willingness to create this world, we can love our fellow himan beings because all of us are created in the Divine image.

Comment on Am I Friends With Lena Dunham: Communicating in the 21st Century

I agree that blogs are the best forum for serious discussion. Twitter and Facebook are OK more for a thought or quote than for a fully developed idea. I do try to use them to attract new readers to the blog, and that can be effective.
